Canadian road distances in kilometres and miles
Driving distances in kilometres between Canadian cities, with drive times and estimated fuel costs. This is a small selection of routes; the full United States calculator covers every state.
Why 11 routes and not the whole country
These 11 routes are here because they were asked for. Each one was a page on the old site that other sites still link to, so each one still gets visitors arriving from somewhere. Rebuilding them keeps those links working. What is deliberately absent is everything around them: there is no province index, no Canadian city hub, no Canadian equivalent of the popular-routes list. Those pages had no links and no measurable traffic, and the place dataset behind this site covers Canada far more thinly than it covers the United States, so generating them would have produced pages with nothing in them.
The set is unusually spread out as a result. It runs from Sainte-Adèle to Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, about 22 km, up to Ottawa to Vancouver, British Columbia at roughly 4,175 km — a factor of more than a hundred between the two ends, across 5 provinces and territories. 3 of them are under an hour behind the wheel and 3 take more than twelve hours. There is no single sensible way to present a set like that, which is another reason it is a flat list rather than a browsable hierarchy.
Two differences from the US pages are worth knowing before you read one. Distances here lead with kilometres, because that is what Canadian road signs use, with miles alongside. And the fuel figures are the site's US assumptions — dollars per gallon — restated for the route, not Canadian pump prices in cents per litre, so treat them as a rough comparison between routes rather than a budget. The method is the same one used everywhere else on the site and is set out in full under how distances are estimated, including why these are estimates rather than routed figures.
One route in the set crosses two time zones, and several cross provincial boundaries, which matters for speed limits and winter tyre rules in the same way state lines do further south. The road safety guides cover the driving side of that even though they are written around US conditions; the physics of a twelve-hour day at the wheel does not change at the border. For anything on the American side, the calculator on the home page answers any pair of the sixteen thousand US places in the dataset, whether or not that pair has a page of its own.
